Rebecca Hawkins, President
Rebecca has lived in Colorado Springs for 10 years and is currently employed by USAA Federal Savings Bank as a Senior Business Process Consultant / Project Manager for Sales and Service Learning and Practices. She supports short- and long-term strategies for front line employee skill development and continuous learning. She is a Certified Project Manager (CPM), a certified SAFe Agilist, Toastmasters Competent Communicator and Competent Leader, and holds a Bachelor's Degree from University of Massachusetts with a major in English and a minor in French and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Colorado Christian University. She has a diverse career background including multiple small business start ups, various customer sales and service roles, new hire training, and leadership.
Rebecca has served on several non-profit boards as Treasurer, Secretary, and Board Chair. In addition to serving as President of PPATD, she currently serves as the Marketing and Communications Chair for 4word Colorado Springs.
Her vocational passions are employee development, motivational theory, and human centered design. In her spare time she loves hiking with her husband and practicing yoga. She is a HYI-200 hr certified yoga instructor and founder of Unforced Rhythms, LLC, offering restorative yoga classes and retreats.
Barb Gurnett, President Elect
Barb Gurnett is President of Springs Training & Consulting, specializing in sales, customer service, leadership training and executive coaching and assessment services. Previously, Barb spent the last 17 years as Chief Learning Officer at a property and casualty company and has been in the financial services industry for 30 years. As Chief Learning Officer, she led the talent development strategies during the organization’s business expansion, developing and deploying training, coaching and performance solutions across the organization. Barb also led the development and implementation of the knowledge management systems and strategies, increasing efficiency, quality and customer satisfaction.
Barb has a passion for learning innovation and technology, strategy, leadership and executive development - unlocking potential and executing extraordinary business results.
Barb lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, Steve, and children. She loves the outdoors, hiking and biking and is an avid reader.
Clara Akins, MBA, CPLP, VP Finance and Administration
Clara Akins has over 13 years experience in instructing and facilitating corporate specific courses to include curriculum development in the corporate environment. Currently she is a Manager for USAA. She also leads the Excellence Awards Customer Service program for the Southern Colorado Better Business Bureau. Clara has an MBA with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting from Regis University and has her CPLP designation. Dominique Ross, VP Membership
Isabelle Dominique Ross is a Learning and Development professional working in a Senior Training Specialist role within the Faculty and Staff development office at the US Army Space and Missile Defense School. She is a certified Train-the-Trainer for the Common Faculty Development Instructor and Training Developer/Instructional Designer Courses; she also facilitates the Advanced Facilitation Skills Course and the Training and Education Middle Managers Course, manages instructor certification, and maintains and updates instructor records. Dominique has over 10 years of experience instructing and facilitating and managing training programs. She completed a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix and a graduate certificate in Teaching English as Second/Foreign Language from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She also earned her PHR and PMP certifications, and plans to pursue her CPLP credential within the next year. Christina Breiner, VP Programs
Christina is an Education Consultant with Allstate, with a focus on educating new agency owners and their staff, as well as providing education support to current agencies. She loves being in the classroom and excels at helping learners connect content with their real-world needs. Her primary focus has been on delivering and creating sales training, and she also enjoys facilitating manager development and communication courses. Christina brings a wealth of experience in the non-profit world including volunteer training and management, board membership, budgeting, and recruitment. Christina enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with her husband and her Great Dane, Archie.
John Kostek, VP Programs
John Kostek manages an international team of Learning Portfolio Managers for Hitachi Vantara. Prior to joining a technology company, he was a research associate in a joint position between the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience at Rutgers Medical School and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
John’s evidence-based training programs have won praise from Chief Learning Officer, Brandon Hall Group, and the Association for Talent Development and his work has been published in Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Gambling Studies, Journal of Behavioral Addictions, Journal of Traumatic Stress, Computers in Human Behavior, Handbook of personality at work, Handbook of Testing and Assessment in Psychology and TD Magazine.

Sammy Payne, VP Sponsorship
Sammy recently retired from Hewlett Packard Enterprises after a 15-year stint as a senior facilitator for executive, management, and professional development. Along the way, he delivered over 50 different workshops in 25+ countries as well as interacting with thousands via virtual media. He prides himself on delivering in an engaging, humorous way focusing on the participant WIIFMs. Prior to Hewlett Packard, he retired from the US Air Force after tours in special operations, space shuttle operations, and public affairs. He has a Masters in Human Resource Development and has held certifications in project management, quality, and presentation skills. He lives in the Colorado Springs area with his wife of 45 years, three kids, and five grandkids. He plays racquetball, reads, travels, and takes full advantage of the retired life.

Chuck Herbst serves as a Lead Instructional Designer for USAA. Chuck has been in the training and development field for over 25 years and is responsible for maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and appeal of instruction and other learning experiences. He earned his Masters in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Regis University. Cindy Knapp, Board Member Emeritus
A native of Colorado Springs, Cindy has been active in the Pikes Peak Chapter of ATD for over 17 years and has served on the Board in the roles of VP of Membership, President Elect, and President. With more than 20 years in the Training and Development field, Cindy has trained and coached people ranging in age from early teens to post-retirement ages. Her experience includes work with non-profit organizations, government contract organizations, corporate training, and sales and business training and coaching. Cindy has worked both with development and delivery of training. She currently works as an Independent Sales Director and New Consultant Trainer and Coach for The Pampered Chef, Ltd., overseeing a team of phenomenal entrepreneurs.Her other passions include ballroom dancing (which often involves teaching, too!), gardening, and training her paint horse to be a fantastic trail horse.
