Behavior Engineering Model for Performance Evaluation

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you provided training to folks in your organization only to realize after a period of time, there was no discernible change in the way they performed their job?  In other words, you felt like the training you just provided was a waste of not only your time but theirs as well.  Why do you think that is?  Could it be the behavior you were hoping to improve was not the real cause for degraded work performance?  Could it be the employees don’t have the correct procedures?  Perhaps you got information that pointed to wrong assumptions about incentives, outcomes or motivators?

Thomas Gilbert’s Behavior Engineering Model (BEM) is one method we can use to determine if the focus of our training was on job related performance.    The BEM is presented in Gilbert’sHuman Competence: Engineering Worthy Performance (Gilbert, 1978, p. 88).  The BEM is a simple analysis tool that evaluates the organization and employee’s work environment to provide a way to assess and identify barriers to individual and organizational performance.

    Speaker:  Ann Rush

During this 90-minute session, you will learn:

    • The purpose of the Behavior Engineering Model (BEM)
    • The three elements evaluated to reveal potential issues with the work environment: Information, Instrumentation and Motivation.
    • The three elements evaluated to reveal potential issues with employee’s behavior at work: Knowledge, Capacity and Motives.
    • How to apply the BEM in your work environment
    • How to work with your organization’s leadership to address deficiencies revealed

This interactive session will foster open discussion and exercises to reinforce the concepts that will be presented.  The ultimate goal is for the attendees to learn the BEM so that they can apply it in their work environments and focus on the appropriate barriers to improve or optimize employee work performance.

The Positive Impact of Front-End Analysis at Colorado Springs Utilities

Do your leaders believe in the value of training? Is training worth it in our organization? Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) is working diligently to reduce "scrap learning" from their training programs. A key part of the movement includes a vigorous front-end analysis process.

Ben Lucero, Senior Instructional Designer with CSU, will share a brief story of why Colorado Springs Utilities decided to:

    • make changes,
    • how those changes were made, and
    • the impact on business.

Members are encouraged to bring their "boss" so Ben's message of training and return on expectation (ROE) can be shared with the leaders of your organization.

The event location is being generously provided by Colorado Springs Utilities and we will gather in the Pikes Peak Room.

This will be announced closer to the event and attendees will be notified at their registration email.

Develop and Deliver Technical Presentations That Get Results!

You have to deliver an important technical presentation and you want your audience to pay attention. Your goal is to have them walk away understanding exactly what you've told them and what they should do next.

Too often technical presentations are confusing. Presenters commonly unload a massive amount of information.  They use spreadsheets or images that audience can't read and never identify why or how the information is of any value.

We are welcoming back, Sheri Jeavons, President of Power Presentations, to help us learn to keep an audience on track and engaged during an in-depth technical presentation (or maybe a training session...).

    This webinar will help you:

    • Understand the elements that help transition technical content into a compelling story
    • Captivate your audience in the first two minutes
    • Make sure your audience understands what's in it for them
    • Implement the proper steps to talk through a spreadsheet
    • Deliver your presentation without reading the screen

    Sheri Jeavons

When Sheri founded Power Presentations in 1993, she had two goals in mind.  The first was to empower business professionals through personalized coaching to look and sound dynamic while communicating in any situation.  The second was to create a training program that professionals would leave saying, "That was the best training I've ever attended. Ever!"

When asked what three words describe her, she answered, "Passionate, driven, and loyal."  With these attributes she has become a leader in the topic of virtual communications.

So, come join Sheri and the group to share some great information and some needed tips.
