Leveraging Gamification to Enhance Learning and Business Outcomes

Gamification: It’s a great way to increase learner engagement. But can it help your training program scale the rungs of Kirkpatrick’s 4 Levels? Yes! The key is to use the principles of instructional design and performance improvement to guide your gaming decisions. In this session, Kerri will share a case study to illustrate this decision process. She will include hands-on activities to help participants incorporate gamification into their training designs.

After this session, participants will be able to:

    • List the benefits of training gamification
    • Discuss key connections between Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick’s measurement framework, and effective game design for adult learners
    • Select gamified training elements to enhance desired learning and business outcomes
    • Identify resources to help trainers successfully apply gaming techniques

    ATD Capabilities covered in session:

    • Business Insight
    • Performance Improvement
    • Instructional Design
    • Learning Sciences

    Evidence-based Talent Development

In an era rampant with fake-news, gas lighting, and propaganda, how do you know your methods, procedures, and recommendations are the best? How do you evaluate the quality of potions and snake oils? Science. You know the methods are the best if scientists have studied the methodology and repeatedly demonstrated an effect. But keeping up with scientific literature to support your recommendations and methodology is no small effort. I have assembled some of the strongest evidence available for Talent Development Professionals that will be available for you to review.

    Specifically, we will review:

    • What is evidence
    • Evidence-based instructional design to improve learning
    • Evidence-based personnel selection to improve decision making
    • Evidence-based Strategic Goals, Mission, & Vision to improve performance

    • Talent Strategy Management
    • Performance Improvement
    • Data and Analytics
    • Collaboration and Leadership
    • Compliance and Ethical Behavior
