    A great way to share information is to conduct short, focused interviews with subject matter experts who can share their wisdom. I've produced a few of these, and in the process learned a few lessons.

    1. send your interviewee the questions ahead of time so they have time to think about answers. 2. stand directly behind the camera or iPad, right at eye level and tell him or her to talk to you... give them lots of head nods and smiles to make their answers more conversational. 3. ask your question on video before they start talking... it'll help you later when editing. Additionally, the attached document was shared with me giving insight into how to make your video more effective. Fun presentation, take a look:

    Joel, this is right on target.  Sending questions or scripting to the subject ahead of time saves tons of time on shooting day.  It also allows the subject, who obviously is not an actor, to come across more natural.

    Good stuff.

    Thanks for sharing this Joel!  Very helpful.  We do very similar things when conducting a video using an interview style.  While we let them know what the questions will be, we have asked interviewees not to write and/or memorize a script to the question.  We find the more laid back, conversational approach comes off better in the video.

    Chapter 13 of "Rapid Video Development for Trainers" by Jonathan Halls has some great stuff on this topic as well, including helping them "dress for success." Something I've got to figure out myself is if I carry a small bit of foundation to reduce glare on noses and foreheads... think this would be a good idea... and if a person rejects, then it's kinda on them. Other thoughts?

    We wanted to conduct an interview with an employee while they were walking  - kind of a way to show the site while also hearing from the interviewee... had a hard time figuring out how to keep the iPad from jumping around a lot... the attached photo was our fun solution... just walked the bike along in front of the person while the interview was taking place... turned out great!
